Etsuko Ichikawa's Deai series

Artist Etsuko Ichikawa creates "pyrographs" by imprinting molten glass onto paper and leaving an impression of the piece.

I saw her current show at the 4Culture gallery downtown yesterday, and it is totally awesome.

What's got me scratching my head is: would this process be considered drawing, printmaking, or glasswork? Or is pyrography its own category?

Jeff says:

Looks like it's its own category. A.K.A. Woodburning.

Katie Dunne says:

I could have sworn that it was smoke being swirled in front of a camera's lens.Simply amaising.
