Like bringing a match to a gas party

May 17 2012.

There are times when a group of people do something ill advised. Examples include (in order of severity):

  • Drinking contests
  • Punching discarded florescent lights to see them explode
  • Couch surfing
  • Democratically voting on a product design while the product is being built
  • Gas parties

I've never been to a gas party. In fact, the term just rolled out of my mouth the other day. But I imagine it's:

  1. Ill advised
  2. Flammable
  3. Should be ended quickly

Really, any of the above activities should be ended quickly. But there are tactful and tactless ways of ending things. Tactful methods will extinguish an activity quickly and quietly. Tactless methods will end a situation by burning everyone involved - emotionally, metaphorically, and sometimes physically.

The next time you think to end something, ask yourself if you're bringing a match to a gas party.

I'm really curious now what happened that was akin to your analogy! =P

I'm sure it had to do with the design-by-committee, but I wonder how it was ended...

BA says:

Oh ... I'll bring a match to a gas party!
